“We want the Atlanta Marathon and Marathon Relay to appeal to runners of all abilities,” stated Tracey Russell, Executive Director of the Atlanta Track Club. “Earlier this year we announced a course limit of 6 ½ hours to open up the field to more casual runners and first-time marathoners, and now we are excited to generate buzz and excitement from competitive runners by adding prize money to the event. It’s the best of both worlds. ”
The Atlanta Marathon and Marathon Relay will start and finish at Atlantic Station, featuring a USA Track & Field certified loop course that takes place entirely within the City of Atlanta. The challenging course takes participants on a tour of Atlanta past well-known sites and neighborhoods including Centennial Olympic Park, Georgia Aquarium, CNN Center, Turner Field, The King Center, Grant Park, Virginia-Highland, Piedmont Park, Buckhead and along sections of Peachtree Road.
Online registration is available at atlantamarathon.org and will remain open through 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2012. All Atlanta Marathon and Marathon Relay participants receive a Nike long-sleeve performance shirt, commemorative finisher’s medal, and marathon finishers will receive a special pint glass featuring sites along the course.
